back in gainful employment

So much for my promise to blog more. Still, not having a job or going out much doesn't leave much excitement.

Anyway, it took almost exactly a year, but I've finally got myself a job. With one of my previous employers' rivals, no less.

I started on the 1st and it's going well so far. Lots to learn, but working in the industry previously will help. Two out of my four bosses are in NYC this week. So jealous. Money will still be a bit tight, but it's better than not getting enough to cover bills, isn't it?

Shittest. Year. Ever.

Since my last post, I had to have Millie put to sleep. She'd lost the sight in her other eye, so the best decision was to let her go peacefully. The flat seemed so empty without her for a while, but I've sort of got used to not having her around. It's weird as I swear I can still hear her sometimes.

Well, hello there

Wow, I've really not updated in a while, eh? Let's see........

I suppose the major thing is I was made redundant a couple of weeks ago. So I've been spending loads of time jobhunting and sorting out jobseekers and housing benefits. It's all so complicated now I have a mortgage. Not to mention frustrating dealing with recruitment agencies. I was supposed to receive my redundancy last week but, surprise surprise, some dumbarse in HR hadn't signed the form so I'm still waiting. NOT HAPPY, Carillion. I'm giving them another week, then the HR Director is getting a complaint letter. Which will no doubt sit on her desk along with my payment form :-/

On a more positive note, I started taking photographs for The Ruckus , an online music blog, and I've now written a couple of articles. I seem to spend most of my time in Camden. Am due to interview Seth Lakeman next week, which should be good. It'll be my first face to face interview. Eeeek!!

Millie's doing well. Sort of. I think she's just getting old, bless her. She had a bad infection, toxoplasmosis, a few weeks ago which has caused her to lose the sight in one eye (not to mention costing me over £300!), but it seems to have cleared up now. Will take her back to the vet for a check up once I get my redundancy.

So yeah. That's it, I think. I promise to update more. Honest.

If someone says that screaming fans freak them out and cause slight panic attacks, why the fuck would you think it’s okay to scream and jump on him? You really want to force someone to crouch in a doorway in order to calm down? Have you no respect for other people? And to the girl in the blue shirt that got a nice arm pinch by the security guard? I hope he breaks it if you ever get near him again.

little ashes

Last night I attended a preview screening of Little Ashes as part of the Lorca On Film festival. Starring Javier Beltran as Lorca and Robert Pattinson as Salvador Dali, the movie tells the story of their relationship between the two men from 1922 when Salvador arrives in Madrid at the age of 18. It’s a beautifully shot movie, funny and disturbing at times, with excellent performances from both leads. A bicycle stealing scene is just stunning.

 

I will admit that I’d not heard of Lorca beforehand, so didn’t know his story. Dali, everyone knows. Probably. Showing his odd little eccentricities and seduction by fame and money, Rob was outstanding as Dali.

 

If all goes well, Little Ashes will open Rob up to a whole new audience. The last scene was worth the ticket price alone.
